Who Keeps Your Dream Moving?

Who Keeps Your Dream Moving?

A truck that’s supposed to tow the camper dies right before the Fryeburg Fair and suddenly everything is on the line: the booth, the inventory, the week’s income, and the mental stamina it takes to keep showing up. We’re recording on the fly from the Loud Proud American tour bus, talking through the real logistics of vendor life, the stress of last-minute fixes, and how one small mistake accidentally led to the best fair upgrade possible: a rented golf cart that saves our feet and our time.

The turning point comes from community. When I finally admit I need help, a devoted listener and friend, Doug Stimpson, doesn’t hesitate. He hooks up to the camper, drops his plans, and gets us to the fair safe and sound. That kind of loyalty hits deep, and it opens up a bigger conversation about pride, asking for help, and the quiet ways friends and family hold up a small business. We also unpack the pressure of a slow start, how comparing sales to past years can wreck your mood, and what it looks like to choose a better mindset in real time.

Then we do something we’ve never done before: I peer pressure my mom into joining the podcast while we’re bouncing across the fairgrounds on a freezing night. We talk honestly about what it’s like working fairs together, how we “ride the waves” when money is tight, and the little comforts that keep morale alive, from warm cookies to prayer. What

Tour Bus Setup And Golf Cart Win

SPEAKER_05

it do, what it do, what it hot did, did it, did it it do. Good low, almighty, and I so excited to be back with you. Oh, it's true. It is damn true. Why? Because I love you, but you already know that to be true. This week's episode of Share the Truggle Podcast is a little bit different and a lot of bit short, but this is just the way it has to be to keep the consecutive streak together. And I have something special planned, actually. A random surprise special addition to this podcast, to this special episode, if all goes well, if I'm allowed to uh potentially possibly bully somebody into it. But uh I'm actually recording this portion of the podcast from inside the Loud Proud American Tour bus. I was just uh walking over to here from the um LPA booth. We are here at the Fryberg Fair, and uh it's about closing time on Tuesday evening, and um I just had this really cool idea about something I'm gonna try to drop on the podcast here shortly. So um, in order to do that, I wanted to set it up real quick. So I just walked to the old bus ski and uh getting ready to close this up for the night and to run our golf cart back to uh our vendor space. So, which is just pretty awesome. I'm not sure if we talked about that already. Um, but we got a golf card, okay? We got a golf card. Yeah, I don't life's been a blur, so I'm not confident if um I mentioned this, but I failed to submit the paperwork for my camping space here at the fair. So by the time that I checked in about the camping space, by the time I realized the mistake that I had made, let me claim that. I'm gonna own that. I had made by the time I made that mistake, and there's a silver lining here, uh, I called in and they said that all the spots were taken on the side that I normally camp on. So they revealed to me that there was two available spots in the entire campground that my camper could fit uh and on the opposite side of the road, and on this side of the road where I'm currently camping now, um, it's attached to the fair, you don't have to cross the main road. So when I told the wife this, she was obviously disappointed in my poor planning, but her uh infinite wisdom, she then sprung into action, called me, and said, Good news, bad news. Good news is we don't have to walk. Bad news is gonna cost you about 400 bucks. I rented a golf cart. Yeah, well, it was genius. Uh the team out here at uh Goodrow and Sons LLC or golf Goodrow and Sons Golf Cart LLC, they hooked us up, and uh it's been such a tremendous uh help and addition to uh our fair experience. So uh super thankful for that. That's been a tremendous help. But I'm gonna put that out there and shout that out there because my wife is on my back saying that I'm not giving her enough credit for this actual decision for the way this went down. She thinks that my poor planning, which led to the golf cart, that I should not be receiving any of the credit on this. So I'll let you two decide. You know what I mean? I'll let you just you know fight it out. You and her. I know which way she chooses. So how about you? Do I get any credit for this? Does my mistake and poor judgment and overall unorganized life resulting in the ability to rent a golf cart? Does that at all give me any credit? Because I mean, between you and me, if I just did everything the way I was supposed to do, we wouldn't have a golf cart now, would we? Arrest my case, Your Honor. No further questions. You're witness. Anyways, um, yeah, yeah. I probably already told you that. But I blacked out. This has been uh crazy.

Camper Tow Rescue And Asking Help

SPEAKER_05

If you guys recall the last episode, I mentioned to you that um the family vehicle, the one that toes the camper, she went kaputsky, resulting in a uh a toe strap and a diesel incident hauling uh the Yukon down my road uh with a tractor to get to Uncle Mike's garage, Packard's garage, and to have him uh get to work on it, which he had to um basically uh move heaven and earth to have the opportunity and the ability to work on our vehicle. And uh we got it back Friday evening. I don't know what time it was, but you know, they had a family weekend vacation getaway planned, going up to camp, and that got delayed and destroyed because of my poor judgment. Uh you know what? You can't blame me for this one. I didn't do anything for my vehicle to go kaputsky, okay? I had no responsibility in that one. So I cannot say that it's my bad judgment. So let me strike that from the uh jury's mind here, okay? Let's just take that, okay? Uh objection, Your Honor. I don't know why this whole thing's a court case. What? Maybe my life's a court case. I'm just standing on trial. I'm on trial, apparently, with my life. But uh, yeah, Mike worked his ass off to get the vehicle back to us, but it was a scenario that we just weren't comfortable all of a sudden throwing um the trailer on there, and then we also learned that the suspension on the Yukon is um severely in question. I have no rear suspension, and because I have air ride suspension, I technically have no suspension whatsoever, that combination with a 9,000-pound camper, not the best scenario. So we had to throw out a lifeline, okay? We had to throw out a hope line, a line of hopium, and a dedicated, loyal listener and devoted loud power American, Mr. Doug Stimpson, who's listened to every single episode of this podcast, who gets every freaking episode booked and cooked the day it comes out, first thing in the morning. Doug said to me when I sent the text, as soon as I sent the text, said, Hey man, what do you have to? Uh, my phone was ringing, and he said, uh, I thought I would have gotten this call a lot sooner. He knew just by the um podcast episode that it might result in this outcome. But I said, Man, any chance you could hook onto our camper and get me to the fair, and he said, I'll be there in an hour. I can't believe that, man. I I can't I can't believe it. Doug, I I don't have the words, man. And we talked about it on the way here. I'm not one that likes to ask for help. And over the past few years, I've been pushed out of my comfort zones and forced to ask for help because I found myself in a lot of um city positions and and unfortunate situations, and I've had to lean on my people, and it's shown me how appreciated and loved I actually am, which makes my life feel a hell of a lot more fulfilled knowing I have the support around me. But it's unfortunate um that you know um I've had to ask for help so much. And you you just as a man who's just trying to uh make a living and and and has the confidence, the supreme confidence in himself to uh do the right thing and to make things happen, to uh be creative and constructive. Um it hurts sometimes to make those calls. And I thought all week long that I was gonna find a way, that we were gonna figure it out that it was a simple fix on the truck and everything was gonna work out. It turned into a very elaborate fix and uh expensive fix that resulted in more fixes to come. And um I was just in that position. But when I reached out to Doug, I didn't even have to ask the question. He called me right away and said, Man, I thought I would have heard from you sooner. I'll be there in an hour. Let's do it. We're talking about a Friday night. I don't I mean, Doug, brother, I think you might have got to the house around eight o'clockish or something. I'd have to go look at the at our messages, and we just hooked on to the camper and you put your life on hold. You stopped everything. You got me to the fair safe and sound, you got me unloaded, hooked up, and cooked up and ready to rock and roll. And shit, man. I think we probably well, we both got home around 11, 11:30 at night, whatever it was. And uh no questions asked, man. And it just shows the kind of person you are, the character you are, and um, I'm so humbled by your support, by your friendship, by your generosity. And uh, I'm absolutely blessed by you, man. So um thank you so damn much, brother. Thank you so much for um putting your life on hold to get me here. And um this fair, I just happened to really stop and think about it and say that I wouldn't again, again, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the friends, family, and tribe behind me, supporting me, taking care of me. You know, Uncle Mike putting a stop to what he's doing to work on the truck, uh, Doug, you know, hooking on to the camper and getting us here, all the moving pieces, all the chaos, all the all the craziness that goes into it. Um I wouldn't be here. I would not be here if it wasn't for you guys. And um, I'm incredibly grateful and thankful for each and every one of you.

Slow Fair Nerves And Mindset Reset

SPEAKER_05

And I'm thankful and grateful for all of you that have shown up and shown out this week, getting here to support us, uh, to buy from us. And uh it hasn't been a strong start to the fair, and I've been incredibly nervous about it. Um we're not um having the success that we always have at this fair. It hasn't been as crazy busy and successful as um we have grown accustomed to. But I'm trying to keep the faith, I'm trying to remain positive because um it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen. I know it's gonna happen. And um when you do a fair of this size, with the opportunity and the possibilities that exist, sometimes things just don't go according to plan. But in the end, the results all work out. So some days that you didn't expect to be super crazy are gonna be super crazy because some of the days you were planning on being super busy and they fell on their face a little bit, you're gonna make up for them somehow, some way. And I realized uh that you know, I spent too much time in my fields, I spent too much time in my head just discounting what's been accomplished, not giving ourselves credit and comparing ourselves to years past. Instead, that's prevented me from being optimistic, that's prevented me from being upbeat, that's prevented me from interacting and giving the level of service that I'm accustomed to giving, which results in the uh level of sales that um I'm used to bringing. So we've made a conscious effort to uh to change that and uh and to correct that. And I think that we're um certainly headed in that direction. And and one of the um amazing things is I've been trying to just get positive and and and put myself in the right frame of mind. And I also um have just been, you know, obviously you find yourself in prayer when you're when you're confused and when you're stressed. And and today I had some time where I was just flirting around with AI and making uh Bible verse screensavers. For some reason, that's what I needed to do to distract myself from slow

Pastor Visit And A Miracle Joke

SPEAKER_05

times. And I was doing that, and uh uh shortly thereafter, um, I got a surprise visit in my tent, and it was actually uh my pastor, it was Keenan and his wife Ashley and his beautiful family, and I've never seen them at any event I've ever done. And they showed up here tonight and uh came into my tent and uh just put a spark uh in me. It just lit me up and and put a fire in me and an inspire in me. And uh um man, I it just was they have no clue what they did, but they just did it, you know. And uh one of the funniest things is that his mom was uh was in a wheelchair and uh his uh little boy was in her lap and it was his birthday, and they needed to get him a sweatshirt, and I got up to do something, and when I turned around, uh Keenan's mom got up out of the chair, and uh Keenan started yelling with his hands up and I said, It's a miracle, it's a miracle. And at that moment I realized she didn't really need a wheelchair, but there's there's a lot of walking here, and it's a smart move to put somebody, you know, in a chair to um, you know, give them the break, because I've seen some mistakes around there by people walking, and uh they were just making the smart move, but I had no clue because I never really met his mother, so I thought maybe a miracle had actually happened. But when the pastor is jumping up and down in your tent yelling, it's a miracle, I turn around and see his mother walking, and I said, Won't he do it? Won't he do it? And we all just started laughing, and uh that was the inspiration that we needed. That was the smile that I needed, that was the uplifting moment that I needed, and in all the laughter and the smiles, it broke the frustration and the doubt and the worry, and it reminded me he will do it. Abundance is coming, greatness is coming. This is still going to be the best damn event of the year for Loud Proud American, and that's why I'm here in the bus telling you I love you and I thank you, and I got something special coming for you real soon.

Golf Cart Conversation With My Mom

SPEAKER_04

Check one two check check one two. That looks like it's gonna be a little loud.

SPEAKER_05

Well, folks, I mentioned maybe we could have a uh special portion of the this week's broadcast here, and we're gonna call uh this portion of the broadcast peer pressure your mother into joining this week's episode because she's stuck on a golf cart, and we have a bit of a ride home. Rotom applause from the crowd. Flaps and snaps in my fingers enough, so I can't make too much different ruckus, and I'm confident that the audio quality is gonna be rather poor as we are obviously on a golf cart and rotate through the back nine at the tribart pair. So the quality on this is probably not gonna be strong, but the positivity on this will be unmatched because this has never ever before happened. I want to make my own road right here, Ma. What do you think about that? Oh jump something. So uh we're gonna have to do here is um guys the traffic. Well, we're gonna I'm gonna go directly into traffic, oncoming traffic, with a golf cart.

SPEAKER_03

And you mother.

SPEAKER_05

And my mother, which this is This is sketchy and dangerous. These folks are trying to leave a concert. They'll leave on the plain white keys, and here we are, navigating traffic. And we just gave a lovely old couple a ride to the gate. Which was which was lovely, I thought. Well, mother. I think the people are dying to know. How miserable is it for you to be on the road with your son at all these fairs? Considering also the fact it's probably 20 degrees today, and we've had 30 mile an hour winds pretty much all day. How miserable is your life hanging up with your son? It's not that bad.

SPEAKER_02

I got a hand warmer.

SPEAKER_05

It's not that bad, I just got a hand warmer. So a lot of people want to know besides they'll ask me. Hey, does your mom actually like doing this stuff, or do you just force her into it? So, um, do you like doing this stuff?

SPEAKER_02

Some days it's not bad. Other days it's great, but cold nights ain't that great.

SPEAKER_05

Some days it ain't bad means a lot of days it's bad.

SPEAKER_02

Cold nights, cold nights, cold. It was windy today.

SPEAKER_05

I'm not gonna lie, today was brutal. It's uh the the amount of wind today was insane. Um we were actually told, sorry folks are going off-road. We were told that uh off-roading is that's much nicer with a golf cart, isn't it? Normally we'd be walking this, and then my mom would really not like me. Really not like me. We were told this morning that about 15 tents were lost on the fairgrounds last night. Uh, a couple of them actually came up in the air and landed on a brand new Ford Bronco. Uh it's needed. Yeah, it's going to the body shop for an estimate. How miserable is that? You're not having the week you wanted at the fair, and your tent takes out a Bronco. Not good. So, um, real question. How miserable is your son when he's not making money? Am I uncomfortable to be around?

SPEAKER_02

Sometimes a little crabby, but I would have made it a good place.

SPEAKER_05

There's definitely we definitely ride the waves.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Think positive. Positive positive.

SPEAKER_05

You certainly gotta think positive. It's hard to think positive when then all of a sudden you go an hour and you only sell a couple of things. Which at a lot of fairs, that's okay. But this fair, that should never happen. You should never have that kind of downtime. So uh it certainly makes you dump yourself.

SPEAKER_02

But uh cookies.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we did my cookies today. Warm cookies help.

SPEAKER_00

That's another good thing.

SPEAKER_05

Um, there's a couple of things my mom will uh go to when uh times are tough at the fair. Uh sweets. What are some of the go-tos that you would get if uh we were slow?

SPEAKER_02

Right now. Maple, just bacon.

SPEAKER_05

Uh fudge is also a go-to. Um cookies, whoopee pies. Those things all are the uh their sales boosters.

SPEAKER_02

It's no coffee.

SPEAKER_05

We've been drinking. I I'm telling, I haven't had one iced coffee since it's been here. It's been all hot coffee, which is not like me. And we've already had two hot chocolates this week, I think. But my mom likes to do this thing. Um, a couple of things. Either we'll get some sweets, we'll get some rib tickets so we can gamble.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_05

Or uh or we spent some time being positive and just praying over it, but it's all gonna work out. Or all of it. Yeah. Really?

SPEAKER_00

All of the information.

SPEAKER_05

Today we did all of it.

SPEAKER_00

All of the people.

SPEAKER_05

All of it today. But when I found myself doing my most reflection today, my pastor showed up. Which was which was crazy. And my mom says, Hey, here's 20 bucks, I'll get some rip tickets. And I said, I can't go gamble in front of my pastor. That doesn't And she said, No, he's going to get something to eat, don't worry about it. Yeah, well, when I walked over to the gambling tent, there he was, waiting to go to the bathroom, so I kept walking. This golf card is uh a true blessing. Um I also have frostbite in my fingers and holding this water on this microphone. How's the hand warmer? Is it working? Oh yeah, it's fun. Well, Mother, we don't hear this very often.

Sweets Prayer And Family Gratitude

SPEAKER_05

Well I don't know. I always tell you that I appreciate that I appreciate you and that uh that I have fun. But I really just want to tell you that we've been doing this for five or six years now, and it really means a lot to me to spend the amount of time that we get to spend together. Even if sometimes you can't stand me. Um It really means a lot that you put your life and your things on hold to be out here with me chasing chasing these dreams, but also Which my mom just educated me on rainbows today. Can you tell me that?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I found out the news that rainbows do not end. They're a complete circle. You will never find the end of the rainbow.

SPEAKER_05

So here I've been chasing the plot of gold at the end of the rainbow 44 years. My mom tells me today it's a circle. I should stop chasing it because I've been running in circles. Apparently, it's actually what my life is. We've been running in circles, but uh all jokes aside, I just want to say thank you for all the time you spent with me. And that uh I think it's pretty fortunate for for uh for a son to be forty-four years old and uh doing these things that we get to do together. My mom's like fifty four.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_05

But uh it's true. A lot of people would give a lot of things to have these opportunities that we have, and uh I was My mom was asking you the other day when it was freezing cold and you can't move and you can barely feel your hands. And uh I said, Well, we do these things because it keeps us young. Doesn't it? Don't you feel younger when you know you can do this, Brad? Well, we've been doing it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you cannot lie. So, as much as I hate to say it, that's really sad.

SPEAKER_05

You actually told people how old you are?

SPEAKER_03

But man of man who would strike. He's up.

SPEAKER_05

Let's see if I can parallel park a golf cart while I'm recording the podcast.

SPEAKER_01

There we go.

SPEAKER_05

Which, if I knew my mom was gonna be this um willing to record with us, no, I uh I would have set the actual microphone up on the camper where there's heat. But I wanted to make sure that you were able, I was in my reverse sound, I wanted to make sure that you were able to not get away. To get in well, number one, you couldn't get away. And number two, because I was moving too fast, and number two, now we can go on the camper and I can turn the heat on.

SPEAKER_02

Yay.

SPEAKER_05

But I hear my water leaking on the outside of the camper, which is always fun. Again. Yeah, I'll have to take a peek at that.

Closing Thanks And Where To Follow

SPEAKER_05

Well, folks, this week's episode is certainly a short one. Um I think it's a fun one and a surprising one. Because nobody, and I need nobody expected to hear my mother on the podcast. Oh, should we stay outside on the golf cart and talk some more, or do you want to go inside and have some meat?

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm ready to go.

SPEAKER_05

Alright, folks.

SPEAKER_01

You got me for quite a while.

SPEAKER_05

I'm gonna see if I can uh put this all together, turn it from an iPhone, handheld microphone to a uh to a podcast. And we'll put it out for y'all, and then uh next week we'll tell you how amazing this event ended. And uh until then, we'll tell you that we love you and we appreciate you.

SPEAKER_01

And God bless you.

SPEAKER_05

And God bless. I like that. And uh you don't know what you're doing just for the end of our podcast because a little something like that's it, and that's all pretty small, so that's gonna come up next. But I also say thank you for supporting my American dream. I used to do that because it was COVID. And people had to wash their hands. And then I don't know why I've never stopped saying it. All the time. I got a kid. So yeah. Anyways, I'm ruining the end of my show, but I I just realized I only started saying that because of COVID. But I'm still saying it.

SPEAKER_02

You are.

SPEAKER_05

I guess it's always good.

SPEAKER_02

I heard it live.

SPEAKER_05

It's still good. It's still good. And I got a kid. Teach her to wash her hands, so we'll keep it in. Until then, that's it and that's all, folks. I appreciate you. Talk to you next week. That's it, and that's all, Biggie Smalls. If you're a loud proud American and you find yourself just wanting more, find me on YouTube and Facebook at Loud Proud American Face page, as my mama calls it. If you're a fan of the Grand Cracking, want to find me on Instagram for all the kids tickety talkin' on the TikTok, you can find me on both of those at loud underscore proud underscore American. You are enjoying what you're hearing. Back down the gun truckers, Facebook, Guster, Guster, but I truly thank you for supporting my American dreams. Now go wash your fucking hands, you filthy savage.
